AINautics University Learning Platform | www.ainauticsuniversity.com
1. Our Commitment
AINautics, LLC (“AINautics”) is committed to making AINautics University—our online FAA Part 107 remote-pilot and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) training platform—usable by every learner, including students, educators and staff with disabilities. We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as our design and development standard and are evaluating the platform against the additional WCAG 2.2 Level AA success criteria as we update it.
This statement is written to support our school and district partners’ obligations under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (28 CFR Part 35, Subpart H, which adopts WCAG 2.1 Level AA as the technical standard for web content made available by or on behalf of public entities, including content supplied by contractors), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and their own digital-accessibility requirements. We treat accessibility as a shared responsibility with our school partners and welcome their feedback.
2. Scope of This Statement
This statement covers the web-based AINautics University platform at www.ainauticsuniversity.com, including:
- Public informational pages (program descriptions, course catalog, contact and support pages).
- Account creation and sign-in (/join/ student registration with a teacher-provided code, /login/, password reset).
- The student dashboard and the LearnDash course player: lessons, topics, embedded videos, quizzes, practice tests and certificates of completion.
- Downloadable study materials delivered through the platform (handouts, study sheets, checklists).
- The support portal and support ticket form.
It does not cover third-party websites that lessons link to for reference (for example FAA.gov, the FAA IACRA portal or PSI test-center scheduling). Those sites are governed by their owners’ accessibility policies. In-person flight labs, simulators and classroom instruction are delivered by AINautics instructors under the school’s accommodation procedures and are outside the scope of a web accessibility statement.
3. Conformance Status
| Standard | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| WCAG 2.1 Level AA | Partially conformant | Most pages and course components conform. The exceptions are listed in Section 6 with remediation dates. “Partially conformant” is the W3C term meaning some content does not yet fully conform. |
| WCAG 2.2 Level AA | In progress | The six Level A/AA success criteria added in WCAG 2.2 (focus not obscured, dragging movements, target size, consistent help, redundant entry and accessible authentication) are being evaluated as templates are updated. |
| Section 508 (2017 refresh; WCAG 2.0 AA) | Partially conformant | Same status and exceptions as WCAG 2.1 AA. |
| ADA Title II web rule (28 CFR 35.200) | Supports district compliance | This statement and the remediation plan in Section 6 are provided so a school district can document the accessibility of a contractor-supplied resource. |
Targets: close the known limitations in Section 6 for all student-facing course content by December 31, 2026, in step with the rebuild of our course videos and study materials; complete an independent WCAG 2.1 Level AA audit of the student-facing templates by January 31, 2027; and re-issue this statement, with a VPAT, within 30 days after the audit.
4. Platform and Assistive Technology Compatibility
AINautics University is a browser-based platform built on WordPress with the LearnDash learning management system; course videos are streamed through Vimeo’s HTML5 player. No software installation, plug-in or mobile app is required. The platform relies on standard HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and WAI-ARIA, and is designed to work with:
- Screen readers: NVDA and JAWS (Windows with Chrome, Edge or Firefox), VoiceOver (macOS, iPadOS and iOS with Safari) and ChromeVox (Chromebooks).
- Screen magnification, browser zoom to 400% and operating-system high-contrast and dark-mode settings.
- Keyboard-only navigation and switch access; speech-recognition software such as Dragon and Voice Control.
- Current and previous major releases of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iPadOS, iOS and Android.
5. Accessibility Features
| Area | What is in place |
|---|---|
| Page structure & navigation | A “Skip to content” link at the top of every page; consistent navigation across the site; semantic headings, lists and landmark regions; descriptive page titles; the page language is declared for screen readers. |
| Keyboard operation | Our standard is full keyboard operability with a visible focus indicator, a logical focus order and no keyboard traps. The student journey (join, sign-in, lesson, video, quiz, certificate) is checked against this standard, and any exception found is logged in Section 6. |
| Responsive layout & zoom | The layout is responsive and is built to reflow for phones, tablets and Chromebooks and at high zoom levels (WCAG 1.4.10). Text can be enlarged to 200% without loss of content or function. |
| Color & contrast | Text is presented as dark text on light backgrounds or white text on navy, which meets the 4.5:1 ratio for body text; gold is reserved for accents, rules and large headings. Information is never conveyed by color alone (quiz feedback is also shown in text). |
| Images | Meaningful images and diagrams carry text alternatives; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology. FAA chart figures used in test preparation are explained in the surrounding lesson text. |
| Forms | Registration, sign-in, password-reset and support forms use programmatically associated labels, clear instructions and text error messages. No CAPTCHA is used on the student join flow. |
| Video | Vimeo’s accessible HTML5 player: keyboard-accessible controls, closed-caption support, adjustable playback speed, no auto-play with sound. Course videos are being released with closed captions and transcripts (see Section 6). |
| Quizzes & practice tests | Practice tests can be taken untimed; the timed mode that simulates the FAA knowledge test is optional. Questions and answer choices are plain text with keyboard-selectable options, and results are reported in text. |
| Documents | Study sheets and handouts are provided as PDF or Word files; an accessible version of any document is available on request (see Section 8). |
| Motion & timing | No flashing or strobing content. Session time-outs on the platform are generous and do not interrupt a quiz in progress. |
6. Known Limitations and Remediation Plan
We would rather tell our school partners exactly where we stand than overstate conformance. The items below are the known gaps, what we are doing about them, and when they can expect them closed.
| # | Known limitation | Remediation and interim measure | Target |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Some legacy course videos (produced before 2026) do not yet have closed captions or transcripts. | Captions and transcripts are being added as part of the 2026 rebuild of the Part 107 course videos, starting with the core modules (Regulations, Airspace, Weather, Operations, Loading and Performance). Interim: a transcript or script of any video is provided within 5 business days of a request. | Dec 31, 2026 |
| 2 | Some downloadable PDF handouts and worksheets are not fully tagged for screen readers. | Student handouts, study sheets and teacher guides are being re-issued as tagged PDFs and accessible Word documents. Interim: an accessible version of any document is provided on request. | Dec 31, 2026 |
| 3 | Third-party components (Vimeo player, LearnDash quiz widgets, profile-image service) depend on their vendors’ accessibility. | Components are configured for accessibility (captions enabled, keyboard controls, avatar service disabled for student accounts) and vendor accessibility documentation is reviewed when components are updated. | Ongoing |
| 4 | FAA test-preparation figures (sectional charts, performance charts, airspace diagrams) are inherently visual. | Each figure is accompanied by a text explanation in the lesson and by instructor-led explanation in class. The FAA provides testing accommodations for the knowledge test itself; we help students and schools request them. | Ongoing |
| 5 | Interactive visual content (for example the 3-D airspace visualizer) is not fully operable by screen reader. | An equivalent is provided through the lesson text, downloadable materials and instructor-led alternatives; the visualizer is supplementary and is not required to complete any lesson or assessment. | Ongoing |
| 6 | An independent accessibility audit and a VPAT have not yet been completed for the platform. | An independent WCAG 2.1 AA audit of the student-facing templates will be completed by January 31, 2027; a VPAT will be issued from its results (Section 7). | Audit Jan 31, 2027; VPAT within 30 days after |
7. How We Test, and the VPAT
AINautics reviews accessibility using a combination of methods:
- Automated checks of key page templates (home, join, login, dashboard, lesson, quiz, certificate) with tools such as WAVE, axe and Lighthouse.
- Manual keyboard-only walkthroughs of the student journey from registration through a completed quiz.
- Screen-reader spot checks with NVDA + Chrome, VoiceOver + Safari and ChromeVox on a Chromebook.
- Review of new course content (videos, documents, quizzes) for captions, text alternatives and reading order before publication.
- Accessibility is a selection criterion for any new plug-in, theme or vendor component.
Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT). A VPAT (version 2.5, WCAG edition) will be prepared from the independent audit scheduled for completion by January 31, 2027 and furnished to school and district partners, on request, within 30 days after the audit. Until then this statement, together with the remediation plan above, is our product accessibility documentation. We will re-issue this statement annually and whenever a major change to the platform affects accessibility.
8. Requesting an Accommodation or Alternate Format
Students in school programs may request an accessible alternate format (large print, accessible PDF or Word document, transcript or audio description) through their teacher of record or directly through our support portal. We acknowledge requests within 1 business day and provide the alternate format within 5 business days. Where a student has an IEP or Section 504 plan, we will coordinate with the school’s accessibility and special-services staff so platform settings and classroom practice match the plan.
