AG Remote Pilot Certification

AINautics University | Columbia, SC

Farming is hard work. Always has been. But the smartest growers out there have figured out that drones can take some of the load off and do things that weren’t even possible a few years ago. Crop scouting that used to take all day? Done in an hour. Spraying a field without wasting chemicals or burning fuel on a tractor? Yep, drones do that now.

The problem is, most pilots don’t know a thing about agriculture. And most farmers don’t have time to figure out drone certifications, airspace rules, and flight planning software on their own.

That’s where AINautics comes in.

Built for the Field, Not Just the Classroom

We’re based in Columbia, South Carolina right in the middle of farm country. That’s not an accident. Our training site gives you access to real agricultural land, real crops, and real conditions. You’re not learning on a parking lot or watching videos of someone else flying. You’re out there doing it yourself.

And you’ll be learning from pilots who’ve actually worked ag jobs. They’ve sprayed fields, mapped orchards, and dealt with everything from wind gusts to equipment failures. They’ll teach you what works, what doesn’t, and how to avoid the mistakes that cost time and money.

The course is structured in a way that allows students to learn at their own pace and on their own schedule. It incorporates interactive online modules, virtual reality simulations, and practical exercises to ensure that students have a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.

What You’ll Learn

The Basics That Matter

  • FAA Part 107 regulations and how they apply to agricultural operations
  • Airspace rules for rural areas (it’s not as simple as “no buildings, no problems”
  • State and local regulations for pesticide and fertilizer application
  • How to work legally with farmers as a commercial drone operator

AG-Specific Flight Skills

  • Crop health assessment using multispectral and NDVI imaging
  • Field mapping and boundary surveys
  • Variable rate application planning
  • Spray drift management and calibration
  • Flight planning for irregular field shapes
  • Working around obstacles like power lines, trees, and irrigation equipment

Hands-On AG Drone Training

This is the part most courses skip. Not us.

You’ll get behind the controls of professional agricultural drones right here at our Columbia facility. We’re talking the same equipment that’s being used on working farms across the Southeast. Our instructors will walk you through:

  • Pre-flight setup and tank mixing procedures
  • Calibrating spray systems for different crops and chemicals
  • Flying spray patterns that actually provide even coverage
  • Mapping flights using industry-standard software
  • Dealing with wind, heat, and other field conditions
  • Emergency procedures and equipment troubleshooting
  • Post-flight cleaning, maintenance, and documentation

By the end of the week, you’ll have logged real flight hours on ag drones—not simulators.

Learn Alongside Local Farmers

Here’s something different about our program. We’ve built relationships with farmers right here in the Columbia area who open up their land for training exercises. You’ll see firsthand how drone services fit into an actual farming operation. Some of our students have even picked up their first clients through connections they made during the course.

Who’s This For?

We see all kinds of people come through this program:

  • Farmers and ranchers who want to fly their own operations
  • Ag service providers looking to add drone capabilities
  • Crop consultants who want faster, better scouting data
  • Commercial drone pilots expanding into agricultural work
  • Career changers looking for opportunities in precision agriculture

You don’t need to be an expert pilot or a tech wizard. If you’re willing to learn and put in the work, we’ll get you there.
